The First Shipment of Red Crescent Medical Devices Exported to Africa: Competing with Major Asian Brands
The first shipment of medical devices manufactured by the Iranian Red Crescent has been exported to Africa, marking the beginning of competition with international brands.

According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Unit of the Medical Procurement Organization, as reported by the Red Crescent Society's Website, the Managing Director of the IRCS’ Helal Iran Medical Devices Company, Seyed Bahman Sobhani, announced that the export of the company's medical devices and accessories to African countries has commenced.

Referring to the dispatch of the first shipment of medical devices and accessories to Africa, Sobhani stated: “Necessary planning has been undertaken to enable the export of over 100 million syringes annually, focusing on surplus production beyond domestic needs.”

He further added: “Fortunately, the market for injection products is saturated, and production significantly exceeds domestic demand. The IRCS’ Helal Iran Medical Devices Company is among the pioneers in medical devices exports. We hope to compete with major global and Asian brands in the market by reducing production costs.”

Sobhani emphasized that the company has been active in the production of medical devices for over 30 years, initially manufacturing injection products such as syringes, various types of IV cannulas, serum sets, and dialysis kits. Currently, it is one of the two main suppliers of dialysis filters for the domestic market.

He added: “We aim to play a significant role in export markets by improving quality and achieving greater customer satisfaction domestically. In addition to neighboring countries, Africa offers substantial potential for exports. As a leading manufacturer, we have successfully entered the export market for medical devices.”

Sobhani mentioned that the registration process for the company’s products in Africa began approximately a year ago and was successfully completed about three months ago. The first shipment is now being dispatched.

He also pointed out that most medical products in East Africa are imported from East Asia and Europe, creating opportunities for companies with high production capacity and superior quality to penetrate this market.

Sobhani concluded: “Our current exports consist of 18 products, and we aim to conduct more precise market assessments to deliver targeted and larger shipments tailored to the needs of the destination markets.”
